Each sex has its own advantages and disadvantages, although it should be emphasised that after neutering neither males nor females are troublesome in everyday life. Every kitten is different and has its own individual personality. Before choosing a kitten, it is worth talking to the breeder to learn more about that particular kitten’s temperament and predispositions. A well-socialised kitten, regardless of sex, will adapt perfectly to family life.
Male — British Shorthair boys are generally more affectionate and playful than their female littermates. A male will often jump onto your lap without any special invitation and show his affection with a pleasant purr. Males of this breed also tend to be slightly more active than females. They are often more resilient to stress and new situations as well. As adults, males usually weigh between 5 and even 10 kg, giving them a very impressive and majestic appearance.
Female — like any lady, she has her own expectations. Her affection sometimes needs to be earned, and a female may become more cuddly with time. This is, of course, not a rule, and some girls demand just as much affection as males. As kittens, females enjoy playing, although they are often more independent than males. An adult British Shorthair female usually weighs between 4 and 6 kg, and although she may not look quite as imposing as a male, her elegance and grace can be equally captivating.
